Our Policy Abour Reporting And Perpetrators (Effective July 1, 2009)
« Reply #1 on: July 10, 2009, 10:27:57 PM »

First and foremost that must be clear is that Your Sanctuary is not designed as a reporting agency.
We are here to offer understan ding, compassio n, and resources as they become available . This includes efforts to provide reporting agencies for your use if should you desire to report any crimes against you.

It is our policy if identifyi ng informati on is posted on Your Sanctuary and/or A Sanctuary and all other sites directly attached to asanctuar y.net, we must protect the suspected attacker/perpetrator against publicity until such time that the attacker/perpetrator is convicted by a court of law and if they live in the USA. Internati onal laws may be different and we will follow all internati onal laws as such.
Further, if the victim is under the age of eighteen (18) we may be be required by law to report the incident depending upon the residence that the victim or attacker/perpetrator live in.
It is our standing policy in regard to any minor under the age of eighteen (18) to work in conjuncti on with law enforceme nt agencies to report and prevent the possibili ty of any future attacks against a victims under the age of eighteen (18) years of age.
For these reasons, we must inform you that if you reveal the particula r identifyi ng facts about your attacker/perpetrator, any Staff member will be required to follow through with the actions stated in this policy.
Particula r identifyi ng facts would include something like "I was living at 000 Any Street, in Brown town, Any State, USA, when one day (or describin g your attacker/perpetrator) ......

We know it is said by some that revealing a secret takes the power away from the secret. We do not confirm or deny this, it is up to each individua l member to decide, however, if you decide to reveal you secret that is fine as long as you do NOT give the specific dates, times, or tell identifyi ng facts about your attacker/perpetrator (their name or address, whether they were a friend a family member and so on).
While you may choose to describe the attack or attacks against you, please know what will occur if you reveal identifyi ng facts. This is for both your protectio n and for the protectio n of Your Sanctuary and/or A Sanctuary and all other sites directly attached to asanctuar y.net.

If you reveal the name and/or the address or phone number of your attacker/perpetrator, we will be obligated to protect the privacy of your attacker/perpetrator (if they have not been convicted and live in USA), Your Sanctuary and/or A Sanctuary and all other sites directly attached to asanctuar y.net, and you (perhaps by law depending on your age and what state you live in).
To protect ourselves a Staff member will, upon discoveri ng the disclosur e, immediate ly move the post into the Staff Area. Realize that, once you choose to and actually do this, we may be required by law to report the offense to your local law enforceme nt agency. Please don't force us into this position unless it is something that you desire.

The policy set forth here is subject to change or removal dependent upon legal counsel.

Stay Safe and Take Care,
Your Sanctuary Staff
